Alpha Insure: A Timeline of Excellence
2004
Alpha Insure was founded as a short-term insurance administrator, setting the foundation for a legacy of innovation and client-centric solutions.
2008
Constructed its purpose-built headquarters in Bedfordview and began transitioning from Administrator to Underwriting Manager, signalling a new phase of independence.
2010
Diversified its offerings by introducing haulage products and partnered with Swiss Re, solidifying its expertise in niche markets with global reinsurance support.
2014
Strengthened reinsurance relationships to increase capacity and began focusing on commercial business, aligning the company with its future vision.
2019
Expanded its surveying services to include fire protection solutions. Became Africa’s largest independently-owned Cell Captive UMA, achieving an Annual GWP of over R600 million.
2021
Enhanced capacity to insure single risk locations up to R1 billion, opened a Durban branch, and achieved an Annual GWP of R1billion.
2024
Alpha Insure achieved R2 billion in Annual GWP, firmly establishing itself as a market leader. Cell captive capital exceeded R550 million, and reinsurance treaty capacity grew to R1.4 billion with ten A-rated reinsurers.
2006
With significant growth, Alpha Insure expanded its workforce to 35 employees and introduced a broader range of products to meet evolving market demands.
2009
Completed the transition into a Cell Captive UMA model and launched specialised motorcycle and leisure market products. The initial cell was capitalised with R5 million, paving the way for sustainable growth.
2012
Launched tailored commercial and personal insurance solutions, achieving an Annual GWP of R200 million.
2017
Entered the corporate and SOE property market with specialised offerings. Established an internal risk management department, providing advanced surveying and risk assessment services. Annual GWP surpassed R300 million.
2020
Overcame the challenges of the global pandemic, maintaining profitability and opening a Cape Town branch to expand its reach.
2023
Renewed its reinsurance treaty with increased capacity to R1.15 billion and expanded its panel to include ten A-rated reinsurers.
